Stone Façade & Staircase New Bond Street

Client | Richard Green Gallery
Location | New Bond Street, London

Appointed as Specialist Stone Contractors, Chichester Stoneworks undertook the supply and installation of a complete new façade in Portland stone, which formed the front elevation to the Richard Green Gallery. Works also included the design, supply and installation of an internal cantilever staircase.

The building has a single-storey, bronze framed shop front, two principle floors and a plainer attic storey, all relating to the existing historic streetscape and retaining the memory of the former buildings on site. The façade is also an architectural framework for three bas-reliefs illustrating scenes from the Odyssey.

The stone was sawn and hand carved by our masons in our Chichester workshop and transported to site for installation by our craftsmen. The joints between the stones were pointed and grouted with sympathetic hydraulic lime, sand and stone dust mortar.

Delivery of the stone proved to be challenging due to limited site space and each stone had to be lifted piece by piece from a truck mounted tower crane.
